John has lived in eastern Washington his entire adult life. After graduating from Central he attended law school at Gonzaga where he graduated 15th in his class.

After law school he moved to Wenatchee and began work at a small law firm in Wenatchee. While there, John represented indigent defendants accused of crimes by the City of Wenatchee and also developed skills in private criminal defense, workers’ compensation claims and personal injury matters.

In January 2002 he joined Steve Woods as a partner in Steve’s existing firm and the firm became known as Woods & Brangwin, PLLC. Since then their law firm has grown from two attorneys and one full time staff member to four attorneys and four full time staff members.

John is admitted to practice in all Washington State courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, and the Spokane Indian Tribal Court.

Since 2002, John has focused his criminal defense practice on DUI's and other traffic cases. John is a member of the National College for DUI Defense and has attended their Summer College held at Harvard Law School. John is certified in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. John has also graduated from BAC DataMaster training at the manufacturer's headquarters in Mansfield, Ohio and his law firm owns a BAC DataMaster instrument. John is a frequent speaker on DUIs and breath testing.

John is active in legal affairs. At the end of 2008 John finished his service with the Washington State Bar Association's (WSBA) Young Lawyers Division, having previously served as state-wide President and six years on the Board of Trustees. John has also served on the Court Rules & Procedures Committee, the Character & Fitness Board and the WSBA Executive Director Hiring Task Force. He is a member of the Washington Association for Justice (formerly the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association) and a Governor of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

John's peers continually recognize him as a Rising Star, through Washington Law & Politics magazine. Given the dominance of Puget Sound area lawyers on the list it is quite an accomplishment for a lawyer from north central Washington to be included.

John and the firm are active in community affairs as well. The firm sponsors several youth and adult sports, teams, sponsors various community events and activities and John is a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. John is also Chair of the Douglas County Boundary Review Board.

John is married, and he and his wife have a young daughter in elementary school. John enjoys travel, playing poker, hunting and competing with his black lab, Doc, in AKC Licensed Hunt Tests and Field Trials. He also plays golf, happy to accept nearly the highest handicap allowed for men.
